EMPIRE'S NEXT FEATURE

1 BLIND WIVES 1 AN AMAZING PICTURE Coming to the Empire Theatre on Friday is a rather amazing picture, which hears the title of ‘Blind Wives.’ Ft is really one of the most amusing pictures that one could wish to see.Produced by Universal, it has for its stars Genevieve Tobin and Conrad Nagel, who appear to specialise in domestic bliss and estrangements. ‘Blind Wives ’ tells the story of a young married couple who, after six years of apparent happiness, drift apart. The wife is all for a career. The husband wants her in the home. She will come home on one condition—that is' that they occupy separate apartments. ’Hie plan doesn’t act too well, and they part once more. The husband, realising that the wife wants a divorce, decides to give her a chance to get one. How he does so, arid to what lengths ho goes—he even knocks her down—provides the most delicious entertainment. It is purely a picture for adults, and is certainly not one for anyone with nineteenth century or even prewar ideas. The dialogue is very frank, and at the _ same time astonishingly clever and witty. Miss Tobin and Nagel are nothing short of brilliant, and the former is so tantalisiugly annoying that one almost sympathises with the husband when he knocks her down. .Another piece of perfect acting is given by Miss Ilka Chase, a tall brunette, with a taste for diamond bracelets and week-ends She is the husband’s choice as a corespondent. She, however, finds the husband's best friend more amusing and more suited to her ta-stes. Comedy clement is supplied by Zazu Pitts and “ Slim ” Somerville, both of whom arc excellent. The show is well mounted and well dressed. Box plans are at The Bristol.
