— MEETING OF DIRECTORS Tho monthly meeting of th© Board of Directors of the Young Women’s Christian Association was held yesterday. Mrs E. E. Nicolson presided, and there were also present: Mesdames 0. M. Begg, D. Adamson, 11. M'AJlum, P. L, Ritchie, J. Malcolm, J. Wilkinson, R. N. Field, J. S. Ross, Miss Gillies, and the general secretary. The opening devotions were led by tho Rev. W. A. Stevely. The resignation of tho mayoress (Mrs R. S. Black) tyas received with regret owing to her civic duties debarring her from attendance at the meetings.—Mrs Nicolson also expressed regret that it was Mrs John Wilkinson’s last meeting on the board. Mrs Wilkinson had been connected with the association for many years, and would bo missed from the board and from the committees on which she served. The minutes of headquarters meeting gave plans for the Dominion Board meeting, which would bo held next week in Wellington. The official delegates would be Mesdames Nicolson and Fowler, with the general secretary. The programme for this meeting included sessions on unemployment, Disarmament Conference, changing standards, and matters of a constitutional and internal nature concerning tho dominion associations.
Correspondence was received from the League of Nations Union from headquarters, and from Miss Law, in Canada, telling of her work there, and from Mrs J. C. Begg, from London. Arrangements were made for the annual meeting. It was decided that this year a summarised report only would be given. Arrangements were made to print the report in the monthly magazine and distribute it early in September. Mesdames G. R. Hercus and A. C. Begg were unanimously elected life members of the association.
The balance-sheet for the year was submitted and approved, and annual reports were read from tho following departments:—Hostel, house, cafeteria, girls’ department, physical and recreation, membership, senior clubs, general. It was evident through each one of these reports that steady progress had been made throughout the year, and that tho association was taking its place as a force in tho life of the community. Reports were given from the association representatives on the Society for the Protection of Women and Children, tho Vocational Guidance Committee, and the National Council of Women. The President concluded by expressing her thanks to the board and staff for their loyal co-operation during her term of office.
