TAIHUI CHURCH SCHOOL BUILDING FUND The authorities who are developing tho Tainui Church School building land wove fortunate in obtaining so many accomplished artists for their benefit concert in tho Town Hall Chamber last evening. It was a concert that merited a ranch larger attendance than was shown, hut everyone who was there enjoyed it immensely. The arrangement of the programme was in the highly capable hands of Mr Ernest Drake, and a perJ’onuiinco ol 31101*0 tiuni passing 111lorost was thus assured. . * Tho programme opened with _ Mr Charles Martin's trio for strings, ‘ Can zona in E. Major,’ played with mncii distinction by Miss V. Moffett, Miss N. Garland, and Mr Maitland AFCntcboon. Master Lex M'Donald, a hoy with a singularly beautiful soprano voice, followed, singing 11 artog’s ‘Summer Song’ and ‘Annie Laurie.’ ills quality and style were most refreshing. ‘Later in tho programme .Master McDonald sang _ Spoilr s Rose Softly Blooming,’ It is s'pmo tune since wo have had the pleasure of hearing Miss Alary Pratt, and her reappearance last evening .was warmly welcomed. She sang tho Pergolesi ‘ Sun Above Me ’ and a group of Scotch songs with that dignity and breadth that invariably’ distinguish her vocal performances. Mr Wilfred Kershaw (‘Hear Me, Yc Winds and Waves’) and Air Sidney Kershaw (‘ O Tn Palmoro ’) wore both in excellent voice. Miss Lottie do Clifford s ‘ Break o’ Day ’ was becomingly spirited, and Air John Kennedy sang the. Alarshall ‘ I Hear You Calling Ale ’ with charm and artistry. Aliss Ailcou Young was heard in Chamiuadc’s ‘ L’.Ete,’ which was very pleasantly sung. Aliss Moffett Is an unassuming and talented young ’cellist, and her performances always constitute an outstanding item in tho con cert programmes she graces. Last evening Aliss Moffett played the Porgolesi ‘Nina’ delightfully., AM APCntc'loon now needs no intyodnrtion to local conce-t-goors. The accompanists wore Airs Ernest Drake and Air Alartin.
