MANSFORD RATEPAYERS ASSOCIATION MEETING The monthly meeting of the Hansford and llcynoldstown Ratepayers and ■ Householders’ ssociation was pi-esided over by Mr T. F. Mackie. Correspondence was received from the council notifying as to the following matters: —(a) Tho work of forming a road through from the Cemetery road to William street will he put in hand at an early date, (h) Instructions have been issued to shift the present light in Ocean,View terrace one polo further up the street, (c) Tho portion of the Lower Harbour road from Slant street to the borough boundary bo named Banchop road, as requested hy this association. That the inspector has been asked to note the request with reference to employing local men on works in this locality. Re the bathing shod the council regrets it is unable to accede to the association’s request. It was decided to write the council on the following matters;—Stale of path from sexton’s residence to the* quarry. 'To ask the council’s permission to plant flowers, etc., on roadside. The secretary was instructed to write to the Fire Board and ask if arrangements could be made with reforoncoto a member of the Fire Brigade being connected with Mr Buck’s telephone in case of any ’fires occurring in this locality. Several members spoke with rOr ference to beautifying the district hy f planting flowers, etc., and it was finally decided to have a. general planting day on Saturday, September 12. It was resolved that the schoolmaster ho notified in connection with the above and asked to instruct the children in tb(* preservation of plants and to also ask tbo'children from this locality to attend on the above date and assist the association with the beautifying of tbc locality. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. Tbo monthly meeting of the Fort Chalmers School Coin mi tec was held on Monday night, tbc chairman (Rev. W M. Grant) presiding. 'The headmaster reported that tho attendance over the tour weeks had kept up very well considering the inclement weather; also that during the montlj the inspectors bad paid their animal visit and reported very favourably on tho work of tho school. A largo amount of heavy work has boon done in the school garden by unemployed labour, and will prove to bo of great value, in improving tho ground. As tbc old bell at tbc school lias been cracked for a considerable time a now one has been procured and will bo in use shortly. Tho dental clinic is proving a most useful adjunct to ibo school, and a largo number of children have been treated. Tbo dental inspector visited the school recently and nas very pleased with tho work being done, and ho remarked on the good condition of the children’s tooth as a whole. The arrangements for the school concert are well in hand, the proceeds of which are to supplement the funds of the .school and clinic. Messrs Hodd and Farqiihnrson were appointed the Visiling Committee for August.
