AN ALLEGED STRIKE
One hundred and fifty-one miners, members of tho Grey Valley Union, were proceeded against to-day by the I.a hour Department on a charge of taking part in an alleged strike on June 17 at VVallsond. Proceedings were taken previously against tho union, and were dismissed. They are now being taken against tho men individually. Tho trouble arose over the employment of a surveyor in tho mine, who had also worked in the Briandalo tribute mine. Tho cases are proceeding.—Grcymouth Press Association telegram. WORKING TWO SHIFTS DAILY. The Blackball Coal Company is now working two shifts daily, employing forty minors, including unionists. This is additional to the Blackball Creek Company “ tribute ” concern. It is rumoured that several miners now on strike will apply for work from Blackball Coal Company this week.—Greymouth Press Association telegram. SUDDEN DEATH. Thomas Glass, a farmer, aged 50 years, died suddenly at Ratanui (Gatlins River) yesterday. Ho was a married man. An inquest was to bo 'held this afternoon.
