ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
MOTOR CYCLIST DIES FROM INJURIES. Mr W. R. J. Johnston, traffic inspector of the Hauraki Plains County, was found unconscious on the Main road near Ngatea early on Sunday morning. His motor 'cycle was close by, while -X dead cow was about 20ft away. Mr Johnston died in the hospital last night. He had been to Thames on Saturday, night, and it is believed when cycling home to Ngatea he collided with the; cow, killing it. He suffered a fracture of the base of the skull and a lacerated brain. —Press Association telegram. Apparently losing his balance when a! gust of wind caught a plank he was holding, P, Dailey, a young married man, fell from a scatfolding when engaged on renovation work at a Port Ahuriri wool store yesterday. He' was removed to the Napier Hospital, where he' died. His wife resides in Christchurch. INFANT’S BODY FOUND. / The dead body of a newly-born- infant was found in the Botanic Gardens last evening by a visitor. Detectives are investigating,—Christchurch Press Association telegram. A FATAL FALL. A fatal accident occurred at th® Galatea road construction works yesterday. A workman named L. Ta Haara, married, aged about twentyfive years, fell from the top of a cliff to the roadway, 220 ft below. Men were working with life lines. The deceased desired to lengthen a hue, and climbed up a rope. On reaching the top ho evidently tripped and fell, his body landing on the roadway alongside his mates‘with- whom lie was working a few minutes, previously.
