ON THE ROLLERS

FIRST BIRTHDAY OF REGAL RIKK

THE FINAL CARNIVAL

Despite the very unpleasant weather conditions last evening the final fancy dress carnival to celebrate the hist birthday of the Regal Skating Rink drew another large attendance of skaters. Happiness again predominated, and the proceedings wore never allowed to grow dull, for there was always something new on the way to amuse the skaters, who evidently appreciated the elforts of the management to make the carnival as successful as the other two. A carefree spirit was lent the proceedings, and the beaming faces of skaters and spectators showed that they enjoyed themselves. Although most of the fancy costumes had been seen at Saturday’s big function, there wore a few fresh dresses, and, of course,_ they assisted in making the competitions for fancy dresses so much keener. The carnival continued until 1 o’clock this morning, and as the revellers removed thenskates and later made their way homeward the thought uppermost in their minds would possibly be a regret that the Regal’s birthday had come and gone. Many competitions were contested, the most interesting and exciting being the clue spot, which was held lor the first time. The cine to the spot chosen in the rink was written on a blackboard and displayed in a prominent position on the floor, and throughout the competition there was plenty of amusement for all. This competition will continue each night during the next two weeks, and on Saturday, August 15, the final will he hold, and the winner will receive an easy chair valued at £7 10s. The first selection of the two-step competition for silver cups donated by the management was another special attraction. The competitions resulted : Best lady’s fancy costume. .Miss Judd (cowgirl); best gentleman’s fancy costume, Mr Shaw (Mexican) ; hot: poster dress, Mrs ,I’istor (Yellow Bird tobacco); cheapest fancy costume, Mr.s M'Gregor (paper frock costing 2s 5Jd) : musical circles, Sirs McDonald and Mr Shaw; Monte Carlo couples, Mrs Timlin and Master G.
