NEW CRICKET FAN
DRYING SODDEN PITCHES LONDON, July ‘26. Tho up-to-date cricket fan is not tbo human Variety, but a mechanical, elec-trically-driven machine, which a man pushes on wheels. It generates a hurricane which dries a wet pitch and reduces, cricket delays. Mr F. dotterel, clerk of works at Lord’s cricket ground, originated tho idea, which will pay for itself with the extra gate money it brings in. A wooden model preceded the present metal contrivance, which consists of a propeller-like fan, that sucks air into a tapering funnel and blows out a terrific blast. it dries sixteen gallons of water from the pitch in half an hour. The test was successful ami indicates that the machine was also applicable to loom’s courts.
