Forecast. The Dominion Meteorologist (Dr E. Kidson) supplied tho following at noon to-day :—The indications are for southerly winds, strong to gale, gradually decreasing after about sixteen hours; we may expect heavy showers with hail and sleet at times, and snow on high country, and the weather cold but later improving; barometer rising, seas heavy, tides moderate. SAlLED.—August 3. Waimarino, s.s. (5.50 p.m.), 3,067 tons, Morgan, for Auckland via ports. John, s.s. (6 p.m.), 342 tons, Copland, for Waikato via ports. The Waimarino sailed last evening after taking in cargo for Auckland via ports. Tho John also sailed last evening, her ports of call being Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, New Pymouth, and Waikato. Now timed to sail at G o’clock tonight, the Dale discharges her cargo at Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Picton, and Wanganui. ■ The Kiwitea is duo at this port 'on Thursday from Auckland and way iwrts, and is to sail the same day for Timaru and Grey mouth. The Opilii is bar-bound at New Plymouth, and is now expected here towards the end of the week to load lor Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth. On the trip from Wellington, the Poolta is being delayed by the gale, and consequently her loading at Dunedin for Napier and Gisborne is indefinite. THE FERRY SERVICE. The Wahine, from Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 7 o’clock this morning, and passengers and mails connected with tho south express. KARAMEA LEAVES BALBOA. The Shaw, Savill Company has received cabled advice that its motor ship Karamoa, on route from London to Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff, and Tiinaru, left Balboa on Thursday. She is duo at Lyttelton on August 19. PASSENGERS BY MORINDA. The Mormda, which berthed at Auckland on Thursday, brought tho following passengers from Sydney via Lord Howe and Norfolk Islands:—Mesdames M. Bennett, J. Field, G. Lond, W. M'Carthy, Miss D. Rossiter, Messrs II J. Ford, D. A. Neal, and F. JPeachey. EXAMINATION RESULTS. Tho following arc the results of tho examinations conducted in July by tho Marine Department Messrs W. F. Ncwstead, W. H. Minehall, and T. W. Daly gained thirdclass certificates as steam engineers. Mr W. J. Maslen gained his certificate as a river engineer (steam). Mr W. A. Durey gained his first-class certificate as an oil engineer. Mr N. C. Melbyo gained his secondclass certificate as an oil engineer.

MACEDONIA SOLD. The old P. and 0. liner Macedonia has been sold for about £25,000 to Japanese ship-breakers, with delivery in Japan. Built and engined in 1904 by Harland• and Wolff, Ltd., Belfast, the Macedonia has a gross tonnage of 11,120. TAINUI AT SUVA. The Tainui, cn route from London and Southampton, arrived at Suva on Friday afternoon, and left there yesterday for Wellington, where she. is dine on Friday to land passengers before proceeding to Auckland to commence the discharge of her cargo. WAIKOUAITI CROSSING. At noon on Saturday the Union Company’s Waikouaiti left Sydney lor Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, Timaru, and Oamaiu to unload general cargo. She should bo here next Saturday to discharge portion of the cargo which includes transhipments ex Changte, Scotland Maru, Troja, Orama, Mooltan, Nieuw Zeeland, Balranald, Atsutu Mara, Deucalion, Chitral, St. Albans, Oronsay, and Port Said Maru., THE WAIOTAPU. The Union Company advises that the Waiotapu is to lcave_ Sydney today for Vancouver via Fiji. She is to load at Pacific Coast ports during the last week in. September and first halt of October, for Auckland, New Plymouth, Nelson, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Melbourne, and Sydney, and is due at Auckland on November 6. NOTICE TO MARINERS. The Superintendent of Mercantile Marino at Auckland advises that on and after August 1, signals will bo made between flagstaffs erected near the south-western end of Motutara island and a point a mile and a-quarter north of Sadler Point in connection with the working of a quarry on Motutara Island and the carriage of metal to the mainland. The day signals will consist of circular and/or triangular shapes exhibited from the yardarms. The night signals will consist of white and/or red lights exhibited from the mast or from the yard. Motutara is the westernmost island of tho Kaitu Group. On August 3 the flashing white light with red sector on Orakei wharf was altered to flashing red every 4sec, thus: Flash Isec, eclipse 3sec. Position; On black pile beacon about 130yds to the northward of black beacon off the Bastion. Details: On August 3 a red sector would be introduced in the fixed white light at present exhibited on the black pile beacon about 130yds to the northw.ard of the black beacon off tho Bastion. The light will then show rod from 344 deg through north to U74deg, white elsewhere. Tho red sector will cover the sewer outfall beacon.
