PALMERSTON NOTES

On Wednesday night the members of the Presbyterian Young Men’s Bible Class entertained the Young Ladies’ Bible Class at a social evening in Clark Hall. There were about fifty persons present, and a very enjoyable evening was spent in games and competitions, etc. Before the close Miss, Stenhouse, leader of the Young Ladies’ Bible Class, thanked the boys for the* very fine evening. On Wednesday afternoon a hockey match, Town v. Country, was played at the Recreation Ground. The game ended in a win for Town; by 4 to 3. The teams were: Town—Misses Forrest, Challis, Garvin, Thomas, Dreaver (2), Pearson, Country M‘Gregor (2), Wright, Robbie, Ballingall, Coutts, Pul-, lar. In the game last year the country team were the winners'. At the beginning' of_ the week the school held a seven-a-side tournament (Rugby). It proved very popular with the boys, and gave the ones who are not regular members of the school team a chance of a game. Some of the boys played very fine football, and showed promise of turning out good players in a year or two. i . In spite of the rough weather lambs are making an early appearance this year, I understand that Mr Ballingall has two or three fine lambs from ewes that are at present running on turnips. So far this is the first and only appearance of lambs in this district. The weather has again taken a turn for the bettor, and the last few days have been very mild. We experienced none of the rough weather and snow which was the lot of the southern, area. There has been some heavy snow in the high country, and there is a fair loss among sheep.—Own correspondent.
