GISBORNE STEEPLECHASE MEETING
The steeplechase mooting of the Gisborne Racing Club was opened yesterday I.' dull weather, with a fair attendance. The course was in particularly good condition. Tho/totalisator investments were £4,112, compared with £9,826 on the first day last year. The principal race, the Gisborne Steeples, was a fiasco. Out of five acceptors only Two started, Handy and Kamehameha. After almost completing a circuit of the. course Kamehameha refused to face the jump in front of the stand, though repeatedly put to it by MTlroy, and Handy went on and won by a circuit. Eventually Kamehameha took the stand •'jump, but then refused the others in succession. After repeated
attempts ho completed the course in time to gain second place.
