MEETING OF COMMITTEE The monthly meeting ui' the commitIco of the Otago A. and P. Society was hold in the board room yesterday afternoon, and was attended by Messrs H. Turner (president), in the chair, J. W. Blair. A. Johnson, T. J. Gawn. John Hellyer. H. if. Driver, R. T. Kirk, \V. M. Mathewson, H. C. Gampbell, A. Mac Kay, W. 0. M'Kellar, John Mee, John Young, K. C. Hazlctl. and James Begg. Before proceeding with the business of the meeting a very hearty welcome was extended to Mr W. M, Mathewson, of Kokonga. a newly-elected member of committee to represent the Central Otago district. The chairman assured Mr Mathewson that the committee was verv pleased that lie had accepted nomination. Mr Mathewson suitably replied, and assured his colleagues that lie would do his best to further the interest- of the society. On the motion of the Finance Committee accounts amounting to £2lO Is !)d were passed for payment. The New Zealand Friesian Association wrote advising that its council, at a meeting held on Juno IG, had resolved to award the 1 081 South Island championship for the best Friesian bull and Friesian cow at the society’s Summer Show, the winner in each case to receive a, gold medal from its association. and to hold the championship cup until the next time it was awarded. The Chairman stated that it was gratifying to know that this championship would be competed for at the Summer Show, and the secretary was instructed to acknowledge same with thanks. The Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland wrote advising that it was very pleased to learn that the society would be represented at their lOOih* show in Fdinbnrgh by Mr John C. Begg. Mr John C. Begg wrote thanking the committee lor appointing him the society’s representative at the Highland and Agricultural Society’s show at Edinburgh, and advised that he would be very pleased to submit a report on his return to New Zealand. Mr H. J. Andrew (Mahenoi wrote in reference to the inclusion of Fnglish Leicester classes in the Summer Show schedule, and it was decided to refer his letter to the Sheep Committee with a recommendation that these classes bo added to the schedule. The Clvdesdale Horse Society wrote advising that it was, forwarding a supply of various entry and transfer forms ol Clydesdale horses, and asking flic society if it would supply same to breeders if rocpiirod. It also advised that its silver modal would again be competed for at the Spring Show on Hie same conditions as previously. The secretary was instructed to acknowledge the latter with thanks, and to advise the Clydesdale Horse Society that the society' would be pleased to supply the nntrv and transfer forms amongst breeders.

Mrs 11. W. Gilkinson wrote thanking the committee for granting them space at the Winter Show, ami advised it ol the results which were noted. Mr W. R. 1,. Williams, orchard inspector at Alexandra, wrote 'making several recommendations in the fruit* section, which was referred to the Fruit Siih-commiltce for consideration.

The Perpetual Trustees and Agency Company wrote advising that its come jinny would have much pleasure in again offering a special prize of £o 6for the forthcoming Summer Show, to he allotted in one of the breeding, .sections. The special prize was accepted with thanks.- and the secretary instructed to acknowledge same. The Millmrii Lime and Cemont'Compauy Ltd. that it would he pleased again to make a donation of one truck of carbonate of lime on the same conditions as previous yearn. Received with thanks.

The Otago Labour Day Association wrote asking for the use .ol Talmna Park for the purpose of running a .sports meeting on Labour Day.—lt was decided to grant the u.sc of the grounds on conditions contained in the .secretary's reply of June 2P. Messrs Lindsay and Co. (■lnvercargilli wiotc advising that they were (pile satisfied with the society's ruling in regard to the points awarded at the winter show in connection with the hams and bacon section Messrs Donald Iloid and Co. Ltd. wrote advising that the cup presented by Messrs Sutton and Sons for the in os t points in the roots, .section was being forwarded to Mr Frank South, the successful compotilijr, which was noted.

Mr H. Lamg., of the Naseliy School, wrote thanking the committee for its kind letter of appreciation. Mr Laing pointed out that the bringing of school exhibits from Naseliy was indeed a difficult one., hut at the same time a delight, and that the encouragement they received iroin the society was very acceptable. Judges were nominated for the annual lior.se parade, which has been fixed to be held at Talmna Park oh September .7.

Air M'Kelhir suggested in regard to the ram fair that the committee might roofer with Ihe stock and station agents with a now of arranging that ■at least all stud stock offered for sale at Burnside should bo covered. Mr 11. Driver considered that an effort should he made to cover the shoe)) pons, as he know of several breeders who would not exhibit owing In the present conditions. Air W. Blair .stated that ho hoped that some improvement eould ho made for the Burnside yards, as he did not consider it possible, owing to the present conditions and facilities at Talinna Bark, to hold the ram lair there.
