The mayor (Mr R. S. Black) left by the express to-day for Wellington to attend a meeting of the Emergency Committee of the Municipal Association. Mr W. H. Mackenzie (tramways manager) was a passenger on the through express for the north to-day. Ho is to attend a conference of municipal authorities on the Transport Li-* censing Bill in Wellington, Mr S. T. Hudson, a son of Mr Ambrose Hudson, left to-day for Bourneville to gain further experience in tba Cadbury-Fry-Hudson works there. Mr F. Waite, M.P., returned to Wellington by the express this morning. Mr J. Deersley, of Auckland, who has been on a short business trip to Dunedin, left for the north again this morning. Mr Erskine Bowmar, of Gore, passed hrough Dunedin to-day on his way to Wellington. Mr T. Ritchie left for Christchurch' to-day on a business visit. Mr E. Aslin left for Wellington by the express this morning. Mr D, H. Salmon was a passenger by the express this morning, bound for Auckland. The Otago High Schools’ Board has approved of the appointment to a temporary position in the Girls’ School of Miss Elina Turner, in place of Miss L. N. Dallaston, who is on leave. Mr F. W. Mothes, M.8.E., 8.A.. formerly London director of the Goldberg Advertising Agency Ltd., has been appointed managing director of the company’s organisation in New Zealand.Mr Mothes is a New Zealander, and is very well known in business and sporting circles in the dominion. He is a' graduate of the New Zealand University, having attained his B.A. degree (economics) in 1910. Formerly a school teacher, he volunteered for active service in 1914, and after 4} years at the front crowned his war record with a 1 position of second in command of the New Zealand Record Office, London,for which he was decorated with the order of the M.B.E. Visitors to the Grand Hotel include Mr A. S. Rogers (London), Mr C. E. : Harrison (Auckland), Mr F. H. Yinrent (Wellington), Messrs B. Todd and M. Russell, Professor A. Wall (Christchurch), and Mr C. A. Robinson (Timaru). Registrations at the City Hotel include Miss D. Bates, Mr A. F. Brightwell (Sydney), Mr T. F. G. Wise (Wellington), and Mr and Mrs J. L. Lavio (Roxburgh).
