HIGH SCHOOLS’ BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING Tho Otago High Schools’ Board met yesterday afternoon, there being present Mr J. C. Stephens (in tho chair), Mrs Park, Dr Marshall Macdonald, Mr J. J. Mallard, and tho Hon. D. T. Fleming. Tho Prime Minister (the Hon. G. \V. Forbes) wrote stating that ho had ’ taken a note of the board’s request that the Secondary Schools’ Board should bo represented on the proposed Education Economy Committee, and that he would bo glad to bear it in mind for consideration when the appointment of the personnel of the committee was under review.—Received. As the result of representations from the Old Boys’ Society it was decided to communicate with the proprietors of Whitaker’s Almanac pointing out that tho Otago Boys’ High School was omitted from the list of loading schools in the dominions. It was stated that the Timaru High School was included in the list. The secretary (Mr M’Lean) remarked that Mr Morrell wrote to Whitaker’s some two years ago in connection with this matter, but nothing bad boon done. Accounts amounting to £1,774 11s Id were passed for payment. The rector (Mr W. J. Morrell) reported that the total number of boys upon the roll was 757. including 270 seniors, 475 juniors, and 12 paying pupils. The corresponding totals for file month of July. 1926-30. were respectively 648, 676, 705, 696, and 691. Miss King stated that tho girls’ roll stood at 480, including 14G seniors, 333 juniors, and one paying pupil. The corresponding’ totals for 1927-30 were 453, 437, 429, and 450.
