Sir Francis Boyes was a passenger by to-day’s train from Dunedin to Christchurch. Mr J. L. Gilkison came from Invercargill by the express this morning. Mr E. Rabbidge, of Wellington, left Dunedin for Timaru by train to-day. Mr J. 11. Wilson travelled to-day by, train from Dunedin to Christchurch. The Rev. J. A. Lush, of Invercargill,came to Dunedin by rail this morning. Mr H. Douglas, manager of the Working Men’s Club at Wellington, spent his holiday in Dunedin, and left to-day for the north. Mr W. M. Luke, manager for New Zealand of the Canadian National Steamships, left for AVelliugtqn to-day. after a week’s stay in Dunedin. Mr A. G. Ross was a passenger for Wellington by this morning's train. Messrs W. Bryant, J. Smith, and A. Jones are on their way to Wellington for a- meeting of the Marketing Association. Mr P. J.. O’Regan, of Wellington, is visiting Dunedin. The Hon. W. B. Taverner (Minister of Public Works) arrived from Wellington yesterday morning by the night express, and will' remain in Dunedin for several days. To-day the Minister was engaged in departmental and private business.

Mr James A. Shand, dominion secretary of the United Political Party, who has been in Dunedin for several days on business connected with the party, will leave for the north by tomorrow night’s express. A Press Association cable message from London states that_ Sir Hari Singh has been appointed Aide-de-camp to the King. Lieutenant-colonel Eleanor Swain, the newly-appointed women’s social secretary for the Salvation Army in New Zealand, arrived, at Wellington to-day, and was publicly welcomed at a meeting conducted by Commissioner. Cunningham, territorial commander. The position of women’s social secretary, involves the oversight of eighteen institutions, also the Samaritan and police court work of the Army. Colonel Swain for over forty years has been engaged in her work. For a number of years she was assistant to Mrs Bramwell Booth, who originated and organised the women’s social work of the Army in London, England. The colonel has passed through all the grades of institutional work from the position of junior officer to that of matron. For the past four and_ a-half years she has been women’s social secretary for the Australia East territory. The many friends of Mr George Alice Ross will regret to hear of his death, which occurred at his home at 43 Florence road, Surrey Hills, Victoria, on April 20 last, in his ninetieth _ year. Air Ross was for forty-six years in the service of the Bank of New Zealand, and was a prominent banking figure in the earlv goldfield days of Otago. For twenty-six years he was manager of the bank at Queenstown, and afterwards was stationed at Wairaate, Port Chalmers, and Palmerston. For the past twenty-seven years he has been on the pension fund of the hank, the greater part of which time he has spent in Victoria. Air Ross is survived by his wife and family of two daughters and six sons. Late arrivals at the Grand Hqtel include Air A. Goldthorpe (Woolwich, London), Alessrs D. H. Scott and P, J. O’Regan (Wellington), Alessrs R. Stark and J. N. Cobb (Oamaru), Air, and Airs R. H. Packwood, and Air J, R. Aloody (Waitaki). . Air and Airs D. Brosnan (Christchurch), Aliss I. and Air J. Carmichael (Alataura Island) are guests at the City Hotel.
