CYCLE ROAD RACE
Tho Otago Amateur Cycling Club held its second road race of the season this afternoon under excellent weather conditions. Eighteen riders faced the starter, Mr A. Harris, and rode over a course from "Burnside to Scrogg’s Hill and back—-a total distance of about sixteen miles. On the road out the two limit riders, T. Mussen and Morgan, held their lead well and were the first to turn; and the scratch man, P. M‘Connell, had gained very little on the middle-markers. T. Mussen punctured later, and a few miles further on Fletcher dropped Taylor and went on his own. However, lie could not overtake the leaders and dropped With a good burst of speed W. Morgan (llmin) gained first place by a clear 2mm. Then followed Ferguson and Harwood. P. M‘Connell gained fastest time, finishing a dead heat with Taylor lor thirteenth. The following are the plac* ings;—W. Morgan (llmin) 1, J. W. Ferguson 2, N. Harwood 3, F. Duncan 4, H. Annison 5, J. Kewish 8, F, Walker 7, F. Greenfield 8, R. Baker. 9, H. Wilson-Pyne 10, V. Mussen 11, J. M'Gregor 12, E. Fletcher 13, P. M'Cojineli scr and J. Taylor (dead heat) 14. Fastest time (50min) P. M‘Connell (scr): second fastest time (SOrain SOscc) E. Fletcher (linin 30sec). BOYS’ RAGE Eighteen boys faced the starter on a journey of about six miles, and sot off at a great pace towards the hills. The scratch bunch—A. K. Wright (Milton), J. Brown (Milton), and F. Beale—conceded 3min to the limit riders and had a hard task in front of them. Challis, off the limit, showed out well, and, closely followed by Oakes (3min), was the first to round tho turn for homo. Fletcher at this stage was riding well, but just failed to overtake the leaders, who were closely followed by D. Smart. The placings were as follows: —11. Challis 1, A. Oakes 2,1). Smart 3. Fletcher (0.8.H.5.) 4, L. Fagg (Milton) 5, Smart 6, R. H. Smith (0.8.H.5.) 7, Hocking 8, E. Haig 9, A. K. Wright (Milton, scr) 10, F. Beale (serf 11, PACIFIC CLUB, The Pacific Cycling Club held a club ride from tho Anderson’s ay School, a good muster turning out under Captain H. Cooper. A steady pace was set to Mosgiel, where the pack turned for home. In a fast sprint homo Q. Hotherington' was first, with Blackie, Gamble, Jackways, Warren, Timms showing tip prominently.
