MEN SLEEPING OUT.
TO THE EDITOK. Sir, —The article in your issue of Saturday headed * Men Sleeping Out,’ comes as a challo: go to those of us who have shelter from the winter’s cold The accredited social workers are almost at their wits’ end to cope with the number seeking their assistance; all complain of shortage of funds due to the present economic cmiditions. If the social workers are not in a position to do anything for these shelterless ones, surely the citizens, the Charitable Aid Board, or the City Council could devise some means whereby shelter could bo provided for tho unfortunate. In the article referred to we are told that church halls are not available, that tho Drill Hall is too cheerless. At tho present time there are many houses to let in or near tho city; could two or three of these not bo rented for tho winter and allow tho men who have not tho necessary Is 2d charged at the Salvation Army shelter, to sleep with a roof over their heads these cold nights? Many of us have spare single bedsteads or stretchers wo could give, and excellent beds could bo made of straw.—l am, etc., S. J. Codpkh. May 4.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —With regard to men sleeping out, could not the Y.M.C.A. do something at this time of stress by offering the uso of its gymnasium ha’ll for the purpose of housing some, if not all, of those unfortunates? We all know what a groat service the Y.M.C.A. tendered during tho Great War. Now we arc engaged in a great economic struggle in the dominion, and it will need the united, consecrated effort of all those who are able and willing to help through the corning months. Not only would tho shelter be very much appreciated, but perhaps some little entertainment and comradeship might bo extended, also, to help pass away a dull hour.—J am. etc., J'I.W.L May 4.
