INDIAN PRINCE'S WARDROBE

OUTLAY OH RECEKT TRIP TOTAL OF OVER £31,000. The Maharajah of Patiala, during iiiß trips to Europe, spent more than £31,000 on shirts and underwear. The reputation of being the wealthiest and best dressed of the Indian princes is enjoyed by the Maharajah, and his Monte Cristo manner in the matter of clothes is celebrated throughout Europe in the great tailoring houses. One of his sartorial foibles' is to wear pants of a particular weave costing approximately £2OO a pair. Mr A. J. Izod, shirtmaker to the Prince of Wales, appears to have succeeded in weaning the Maharajah from the Parisian firms he patronised, and has procured orders which will help British labour and advertise British goods. . , “ I hove known the Maharajah spend £22,000 with a Paris house for shirts, and underwear,” said Mr Izod, “ and most of these shirts were supplied to the Paris house by a Bruts 111 firm. Some time ago 1 was fortunate enough to receive a £3,000 order from the Maharajah.” A great amount of the necessary, material is made at Matlock. The Indian princes at the recent Round Table Conference were highly interested m the Maharajah of Patiala’s wardrobe, and many large orders resulted from his wearing his English clothes at the conference.
