OTAGO'S SCENIC WONDERS

Most of us have longed for the opportunity—and perhaps the to penetrate and explore the remote fastnesses of our world-famous mountain and lake country of Western Otago, but only the privileged few have the necessary physical energy and enterprise to undertake the journey. Otago abounds in scenic wonders which, owing to their, inaccessibility, have delighted the eye of only_ a very few x of our most intrepid alpinists and explorers, and the general public -'is ignorant of the wealth of beauty which exists m some of our remote legions'. From time to time, members of tbb'. New Zealand' 'Alpiuy dub who make frequent visits to these parts discover new views and scenes of indescribable ' beauty which never have been photographed, and to give the public an opportunity of viewing these a display of lantern slides and cinematograph films will be shown in the Town Hall Concert Chamber to-mor-row, at 8 p.m. The views will be described by members of the club, and since the pictures are new and origin nal, a most entertaining evening may be expected. Included in the programme are moving pictures of the icecapped mountains and vast glaciers of the Dart Valley and the ascent of Otago’s highest peak, Mount Aspiring ( 9,960 ft). A unique feature will bo the display of panoramic views taken by a daring party of climbers who carried a cinematograph camera to the ■ prv summit of this peak. The ascent of Mount Christina will also he shown along with slides of Wilkin Valley at the head of Lake Wanaka. An item that will make a strong appeal to lovers of our native birds will be the coloured slides of bird life in New Zealand. Altogether the programme is novel and attractive, and as the proceeds will be devoted entirely to the erection of a tourist hut in the Tinner Matukituki Valley a good attendance is confidently expected.
