• * REPORTS OF COMMITTEES Following are the chief items in the reports of the committees to come before the meeting of the Otago Hospital Board next week: — HOSPITAL COMMITTEE. Tho Hospital Committee recommends ;—■ That the deed of indemnity submitted by the Dunedin City Council in connection with tho proposed tunnel across Cumberland street be approved, subject to alterations as_ to tho location of tho Dunedin Hospital and Nurses Home, and to the same including in the last paragraph that no liability from faulty construction or workmanship will lie with tho Otago Hospital Board. , , „ That no action be taken in the meantime in regard to the recommendation of the engineer for the installation of a stand-by generating set for the Dunedin Hospital. Tho quotation of Messrs J. and A. Wilkinson Ltd. for the supply of DO night latches, Vaughan’s British made, complete with three keys to each lock, all locks to be different and to open with one master key (three master keys to be supplied), has been accepted. FINANCE COMMITTEE. The Finance Committee reports that the secretary has been instructed to again write to tho Hon. the Minister of Health asking when he proposes visiting Dunedin in regard to the proposed new maternity hospital and in regard to tho acquiring of the Loudon street site as recommended. The architects have been instructed to report in regard to the suggested additions to the Roxburgh Hospital. The hedge in front of this institution is to remain in tho meantime. The_ chairman’s action has been approved in intimating that Dr Gilmour would be permitted to call in outside medical assistance when necessary, tho same to he reported to the hoard. A deputation from the Otago Centre, St. John Ambulance Association, waited on the committee in regard to financial assistance, when it was resolved that the chairman of the board and Finance Committee, Dr Newlands, and Mrs Ross bo instructed to report on the whole matter, including communications received in regard to free ambulance services.
Intimation has been received from the Hospital Boards’ Association of New Zealand of the postponement of the general conference which was to have been held in Timaru in March next to the following year. The delegates already appointed to attend this conference havo been instructed to report to the board on the remits to enable the executive of the association to be advised herein. A circular letter has been received from the Department of Health in reference to proposed capital expenditure for the year 1931-32, and the same has been referred to a committee of the chairmen of committees to report thereon. It was resolved that the question of a donation to the earthquake disaster fund be considered at this board meeting. Authority, has been granted for the necessary painting to be proceeded with at the Talboys Home.
