The Prime Minister announces that the Governor-General in Council has on his recommendation appointed Mr W. M. Barr to be Assistant Public Trustca vice Mr H. Turner, who was recently appointed Under-Secretary of Defence. Mr Barr formerly occupied the position of cliief accountant of the Public Trust Office, and in this capacity gained wide knowledge in general management of the office.—Wellington Press Association telegram. The Hon. P. A. de la Pcrrelle passed through Dunedin this morning, travelling from Southland to Wellington. Mr S. Reid, general manager or Wilson’s Portland Cement Company, left Dunedin for Christchurch by this morning’s express. Mr J. I. Rovds returned from Dunedin to Christchurch by to-day’s tram. Mr R. L. Wigley. of the Mount Cook Motor Company, was a passenger by the 11.35 train to-day, bound for Timnru. „ . ± , Mr H. Divers went to Christchurch by to-day’s express train The Rev. A. L. and Mrs Canter, of the Mosgiel Anglican Church, were farcwelled on a recent evening in St.Luke’s Hall. Mr Cauerill was spokesman. and voiced the regret of the congregation at tiie departure of their minister and Mrs Cantor. He wished them every success and prosperity in whatever sphere their lot would be cast. A programme of music, singing, recitations, and dancing filled in a couple of happy hours. Those contributing to the programme were Misses Russell (2), Nance Taylor, Doris Milne, Harrison, and Messrs Harrison and Borrow. The death occurred suddenly yesterday of Mr Frederick Steele Wright, of North-east Valley, in his sixty-sixth year. Born in Glasgow, Mr Wright was educated at the Normal School there, and came to New Zealand at the ago of twelve with his parents. He had lived in Dunedin ever since, and been a well-known resident of the Valley for over fifty years. Deceased was a foundation member of the North-east Valley Bowling Club, of which he was at one time president. He was also at Past Master of Lodge St. John Kilwinning 662, S.C. Mr Wright is survived by his wife, a son (Mr Herbert T. Wright), two daughters (Mrs W. W, Connor, of Christchurch, and Mrs H. M. Ewart, of Oamaru), a sister (Mrs A. J. Smith, of Musselburgh)._ and a brother, who resides in Tasmania. Dr C. H. Laws lias arrived in Dunedin as one of the delegates from Auckland to the Methodist Conference., The Grand Hotel register includes Mr H. C. Taylor (Melbourne), Mr and Mrs A.
