LANG GOVERNMENT'S PROPOSALS TRANSPORT CO-ORDINATION PROPOSED Pies* Association —By Telegraph—Copyright, SYDNEY, January 8. The Lane; Government is preparing legislation for tho creation of a transport monopoly under ono commissioner. This involves the abolition of the present Railway Commission and the recently constituted Transport Trust, which controls trams and omnibuses. It is likely also that the Main Roads Board will bo eliminated. Tho whole of these services will then bo co-ordinated and administered by one commissioner, with subordinate heads. Mr Lang expresses the opinion that the solution of the railway difficulties is also dependent upon the cutting up of largo estates contiguous to the railways. Tho Government, he states, has such a mandate, and will attack this problem without delay. STATE FINANCES FIGURES FOR SIX MONTHS. . SYDNEY, January 9. (Received January 9, at 10 a.m.) The report on the State finances for tho six months’ period of the present financial year shows that the expenditure exceeded the revenue by £5,353, 839. Tho revenue amounted to £l9, 923,944, a not decrease of £1,347 compared with tho corresponding penod last year. The expenditure totalled £25,277,783, a decrease of £1,278,415 REVENUE FROM BETTING TAX. SYDNEY, January 9. (Received January 9, at 10 a.m.) The Treasury officials estimate that the revenue from the 10 per cent, tax on bets has been collected at tho rate of £1,000,000 a year. This amount is just half the original estimate of the Premier (Sir Lang).
