DISABLED SOLDIERS
THEIR CIVIL RE-ESTABLISHMENT WAY PREPARED FOR HEW ACT ID FUNCTION [Special to the ‘Stals.’] WELLINGTON, January 9. The Minister of Defence and Justice [Mr Cobbe) has prepared the way lor the administration of the Disabled Soldiers’ Civil re-establishment Act, passed last session, and hopes that the machinery for its operation will be set up in the near future. The Act gives the .Minister power for the purpose of assisting disabled soldiers to obtain employment, or to engage in suitable occupations, to appoint local advisory committees to make arrangements with employer for the employment of disabled soldiers, to establish, and carry on schemes for their vocational training, and make payments supplementing their earnings. . '(’ho Minister states that nominations for the local Advisory Committees in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin have been invited from the Returned Soldiers’ Association, the National War Funds Council,, the New Zealand Employers’ Federation, the Trades and Labour Council, and tlm New Zealand branch of the British Red Cross and Order of St. John These nominations are nearly complete, and the committees will be set up at an early date. The matter of appointing employment officers was (he .said) m the hands of the Public Service Ccwnmissiouer. l As soon as the appointments have been completed, said the Minister, “ immediate steps will be taken to bring the Act into operation.
