The Now Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Rotorua arrived at I Chalmers at noon yesterday from Bluff, and was berthed at tho George street wharf to complete Homeward loading. The vessel is timed to sail to-morrow lor Southampton and London via Panama PORT WELLINGTON SAILS FOR LONDON. TTt» Commonwealth anil Dominion Linn steamer Port Wellington left Port Chalmers hist evening for London via Panama. The vessel is carrying a lull shipment of New Zealand products. She is expected to run to London m about thirty-eight days. CARGO FROM NEW YORK. The C. and D. Line advises that the motor ship Port Hobart is scheduled to leave New York on February 28 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. PASSENGERS BY PORT DUNEDIN. THE MAUI. FOMA RE IN A STORM

The Government ■ motor ship Maui Pontaro which was at Wellington Irom Nino and .Apia via Lyttelton, is showing signs of the battering she received off A,)via on the nights of December 23 and 24, during the hurricane experienced at tho Islands. Several 2in stanchions on Iter bows werc_ twisted, while some of the heavy awning spurs were smashed like matchwood. I’he vessel arived at Apia on tho morning of December 24. Advice was received by wireless that tho Niagara had nut into a hurricane, and preparations wore made on the Maui Poniarc to leave Apia in a hurry in case the hurricane travelled in the direction ot Apia. Eight hours later it was decided to put to soa, as there was every appearance that the storm wotdd strike Samoa. The Alan: Pom are received warning ol the storm, hut it came so suddenly that before she could weigh anchor and clear the reef she was struck by terrific seas which twisted the stanchions on the how and gave the vessel a severe buffeting. She had to keep out to sea tor twenty-four hours. The wind veered round to the south-wC'l , but the vessel was able to make Apia and continue her loading.

KARAMEA’S BIG CARGO. Tho Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company’s motor ship Karamea was despatched from Lyttelton on AVednesday morning for London via the Panama Canal. The vcsel is heavily laden and well trimmed. During her stay at Lytteleon she loaded between 7,000 and 8,000 bales of wool, 45,000 carcasses ol Dozen meat, besides butter ami cheese from tho North Island. She also lifted big consignments al_ four other New Zealand ports. The Karamea left with, practically every toot of cargo space tilled. Her cargo is a valuable one. The vessel is one ol tho iastost in the New Zealand trade, and she is expected to arrive at Loudon in about 31i days The vessel is carrying two passengers, Air and Mrs Kent GOLDEN CROSS FROAI PACIFIC COAST. Messrs H. L. Tapley and Co. advise that the American steamer Golden Cross is due at Dunedin to-morrow from the Pacific Coast via northern ports, to discharge a largo quantity ot Canadian and American merchandise. She will sail about Monday for Gisborne. Suva, and Levuka to load for Sau Francisco. AVAIKOUATTI WITH TRANSHIPAIENT CARGO. Tho Union Company advises that the AAaikouaiti, which left Sydney tor Bluff and Dunedin at 4 p.m. yesterday, lias transhipment cargo ox the loliowing steamers: —Tanda, Chitral, Otranto, Maloja, Taiping, Jervis Bay, Tisnaren, Tasman, Barradinc, and Rendsburg.
