THE BOYS' BRIGADE

The first Dunedin Company of the Boys’ Brigade now has tho proud distinction of having .Sir Wilfred Grenfell, the “ Labrador doctor,” as its honorary captain. His letter to Mr 11. Grocott, active captain of the company, in which ho advised his acceptance of tho post, reads October lb, 1930. My Dear Friend, — I shall bo very glad indeed to accept tlvo honour which you offer me (to bo honorary captain of the Ist Dunedin Company of tho Boys’ Brigade. N./.i. I am a thorough believer in the Boys’ Brigade. 1 started one fifty years ago before tho brigade was formed, and tho hoys of that brigade have been good Scouts through life, and realise increasingly their indebtedness to tho opportunities that it gave them. 1 wish yon would 101 l the hoys of tno brigade that if 1 gave them a motto, it would bo one that Christ, 1 believe, gave the world as 11 is challenge, and that is—not to worry about what they understand, but to worry about what they do. It is what wo arc. commends us to Cod and man, and the old idea that the Almighty is more interested in our opinions than in our spirit, has brought tho Christian faith into tho contempt that will bring it nowhere, unless wo become ourselves those who redeem it. Christ said; “Follow Mo,” not “ Understand Me,” and 1 suggest as a word I would like to give tho lays, “Follow Mo. Quit you like men. Bo strong. Then yon shall have tho light of life and bo made fishers of men.”—Your over sincerely, Wiii.rnni) T. GnKNKEi.r,.

82 Victoria street, London, S.AV.I. This letter was read to the boys of Ibo company on New Year's Day, after the inspection at tin; combined brigade camp, Waikonaiii, by A) r A. Id. Stewart, of Milton, who kindly acted as inspecting officer.
