BURNSIDE STOCK SALES

The .stock sale at Burnside to-day was a poor one, a weak demand being shown. This was probably due to the holiday season. There was a yarding of 2,100 sheep. Included among these were four or five trucks of extra prime wethers, the balance being made up of heavy ewes and medium light-weights. The best price for wethers was for a consignment from Fleming Bros., of Crookston the trucks averaging 30s. The next best was a consignment from Dodds Bros., Riversdale, which sold from 28s to 31s. The balance of the wethers sold from 22s to 255. Prices for wethers showed a drop of about Is on the sale of a fortnight ago. Extra prime w drived out at 4id per lb, and mediupi wethers at 4d per lb. A truck of extra heavy ewes from R. Yardjey, Moa Flat, sold up to 17s CcT. The balance of the ewes were only medium weights, and sold from 14s to 16s. A drop of 2s was recorded in comparison with the last sale. Ewes worked out at 2|d to 3d per lb. In the yarding of 450 lambs there were several consignments of extra heavies, the balance being of medium quality. Extra heavy lambs were within 2s of the last sale. Prime light lambs shelved a drop of 2s. The top price for extra heavy was 22s 3d. Several pens of extra prime sold from 17s 3cl to 225, and light and plain quality from 14s to 16s, working out at 6d per lb all round.

There was only a medium yarding of store cattle. It was a dragging sale, and no demand was shown. One or two consignments of two-year-old steers realised £5 10s. The balance of the yarding was made up of old cows, and sold from £4 to £9.

Only two trucks of really good quality were brought forward in the yarding of fat cattle. Tho balance was made up of plain steers and a sprinkling of old cows.' Prices were not expected to advance on tho rates of last sale The large buyers had purchased outside. In the pig market seventy-two fats and sixty-six stores were brought forword. They sold at late rates, BJd per lb for porkers and 8d for bacon pigs.
