MOTOR CYCLIST’S DEATH
FOUND UNCONSCIOUS UN ROADSIDE
Admitted to the hospital last night, Thomas > William Swell, who was found unconscious on the Main South road, opposite the Fairfield store, with his motor cycle lying nearby, failed to regain consciousness, and died at 6,50 a.m. to-day. Swell, who was a single man, aged twenty-three years, residing with his widowed mother at 1 Sussex street, South Dunedin, left his home at about G p.m. for Mosgiel. At about 9 o’clock bo was found on the roadside at Fairfield in an unconscious condition. His cycle was lying a few yards away. Swell had sustained severe head injuries, and the position of his machine suggested that he had been thrown heavily. The injured man was removed to hospital, but treatment was of no avail, as ho gradually sank. An inquest was opened by Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M., and adjourned after evidence of identification had been given by John Raymond Souness.
