GENERAL HINTS

KEEPING SILVER BRIGHT Silver articles of all kinds have a great decorative value in any homo but as they must always look bright and well eared lot they are regarded more often than not as a nuisance by the busy woman. Tho secret of cleaning silver is to do it often. Tablo silver in daily use should bo cleaned after each meal. After rinsing the articles, wash them with a soft cloth in hot -water containing a little ammonia and liquid soap. Dry with a soft towel without allowing them to drain. It is easier to get a good polish if silver plate is dried while warm. Finally polish with a chamois leather. When tlie time for a thorough cleaning comes, use ono of the special preparations now on tho market, or powdered whiting and methylated spirit mixed to a paste. Apply this with a soft rag, and. after wiping it off with another cloth, wash tho article in warm water before polishing with a chamois leather. This will ensure the removal of every bit of powder or paste. Paraffin will bo found useful in the case of very dirty silver. Oxidised silver only needs washing in warm water and rubbing with a leather. Silver packed away for any length of time should ho cleaned and wrapped in baize before storing in an airtight place. A large tin trunk or box is excellent, hut if only a drawer is available a piece of camphor wrapper! in with each article will prevent it from tarnishing.
