[From Our Cokrkspo.ndhst.] ' BALCLUTHA, December 21. ■Weather conditions were ideal yesterday for outdoor sports, and all bowling fixtures were fulfilled under most pleasant conditions. The greens were last and true and bowling was a pleasure. The matches concluded the first round of fixtures. Kaitangata defeated Ware pa at Warcpa, Balclutha beat Owaka on the Balclutha green, and Stirling defeated Benlmr on the latter’s green. The positions of the teams on yesterday’s results are; —
Owaka - Balclutha (Owaka names first). Wilson, Hillary, Maginncss, Jones 28 beat Sinclair, Smart, Marshall Buchanan 21; Roidy, Horan. Landreth, Sheddan 14 lost to Cessford, Fletcher. O’Hara, Hayward 29; M‘Leod, Cowd'ery, Latta, Barr 11 lost to Culbert, Dawson. Armstrong, Poynter 28. Totals: Balclutha 78, Owaka 53. Stirling - Benhar (Stirling names first).—T. Duncan, Sinclair, Walls, Bolting 30 beat Auld, Alountford, G. Barron, T. Barron 16; Anderson, Henderson. G. Duncan, J. G. Henderson 18 lost to Howie, Middlemass, Barnett, Thomson 24; Smith, Walls, jun., Jefferson, Little 19 beat Craig, J. Barron, Gregory, M'Skiniming 15. Totals: Stirling 67, Benhar 55. Stewart, Watt 14. Totals; Kaitangata 49, AVarepa 26, CRICKET. During the week-end the South Otago team journeyed to Naseby to contest a challenge for the Crosby Morris Cup held by them. The weather was fine, and an enjoyable game was the result. The holders wore rather badly beaten, the margin in favour of the challengers being 186. South Otago batted first and made 165. The first wicket fell for 20, and 79 was reached before the second fell. Five were down for 150, and thou a general slump set in, the last six batsmen only adding 9 runs. Wiseley (Milbuni) was top scorer with 94, his score including eight 4’s and two 6’s. Lynch (five for 39) was Maniototo’s best bowler. The homo team made 351, South Otago’s score being passed before the seventh wicket fell. Can- (94 not out) was top scorer, his total including thirteen 4’s and four G’s. Borthwick also batted well for 68 (nine 4’s and three G’s), and Knight (56) was also prominent, his tally including eight 4’s. Wiseley (four for 29) was South Otago’s most successful bowler. In tho evening the visitors were entertained at a dinner, at which the cup was handed over and congratulations extended to the winners.
