Tho ‘ Star ’ declares that Scotland Yard is investigating an extraordinary case of a young scientist who invented a * method of rendering aeroplanes* fireproof. He has allegedly been the victim of attacks by foreign emissaries. He perfected his invention early this year,- whereupon he received inquiries from an Eastern Power, and later from European Powers and firms. He replied that, lie preferred to keep his invention for England. While ho > was testing oqt apparatus connected with the fireproofing of a suit which would enable , tho wearer to face the most intense heat, ho noticed an unusual flame coming from the nozzle. Ho kicked it from his assistant’s hand, whereupon it exploded, blowing a large . hole in the laboratory wall. An examination revealed that some foreign substance had been placed in the-apparatus* in order to wreck it. The' laboratory drawers had been forced open and locks broken. Since then .the scientist complains that he has been; shadowed, while attempts have been made to decoy him from homo by means of fictitious telephone messages, while samples and notes have been stolen from the laboratory, He has applied to Scotland Yard for permission to carry firearms on the ground that his life is endangered. ■ The ‘Star’ learns that Scotland Yard has handed over the,case to the special branch which deals with spies and aliens. Several men are under observation. ..
