SHIPWRECK RELIEF SOCIETY
EXECUTIVE OF OTAGO BRANCH MEETS Mr K (J. Hazlett presided at a meeting of the Shipwreck Relief Society of Now Zealand (Otago branch) yesterday afternoon. . The donation of £SO was acknowledged by the British Sailors’ Society, and thanks was expressed for another donation of £lO. . . A' letter from the Collector of Customs at Westport stated that ho would be unable to act as the society’s representative, and so it was decided to ask Mr W. A._ Pearson (a representative for the Union Steam Ship Company in that district) to act. Tho sum of £S2 18s sd, collected on Union Company steamers, was thankfully received. ' It was clodded to ask Captain Wilcox. superintendent of mercantile marines at Wellington, to fill the vacancy caused by tho resignation of the society's representative (Mr C. M.'Turns II). The Secretary submitted a statement of receipts and expenditure, which disclosed a debit balance with the bank as a result of the Tahiti wreck.—The necessary arrangements were left in tho hands of the chairman and the treasurer (Mr D. E. Theomin). Applications for relief in connection with the wreck of the Tahiti were dealt with. ■The following snb-commitloo for the ensuing quarter was approved:—The chairman and treasurer and Messrs W. Clarke and G. U. Denniston. Accounts amounting to £29 7s were passed lor payment.
