(Received November 8, at 9 a.m.) Tho state of tho parties in the House of Representatives at noon to-day was: Republicans ... 217 Democrats ... 216 Farmer-Labour 1 Tho second representative from Illinois is still doubtful. Tho Republican candidate is leading, but the districts not reported are considered to be favourable to the Democratic cause. The results in other districts where tho final count is close will be challenged and a check sought. The Republicans, with forty-eight seats in the Senate against the Democrats forty-seven, appear definitely to have, a sufficient margin to control the Chamber to the extent of appointing officers and committee chairmen, counting on the support of one FarmerLabour Senator, although Senator Brookhart (Republican, Iowa) declared to-day that he would support the Democratic organisation in tho new Senate if that party sponsored a legislative programme that he considered satisfactory. NEW YORK, November 7. (Received November 8, at 12.40 p.m.) A selling wave swept the stock market to-day. Over two billion dollars were dropped in market values. United States steel fell to a new low level since 1928. Railroad issues cracked wide open, some being at the lowest levels for six —-?.rs. Utilities dropped similarly. Special issues dropped up to ten points. The curb market also suffered a reverse.
