AMERICAN ATHLETES
LIKELY TO APPEAR AT CHAMPIONSHIPS OFFER TO OTAGO CENTRE There is every possibility of the American athletes—one of them a world’s record holder - appearing in Dunedin at the New Zealand amateur track and field championships this season. The Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur ' Athletic Association ■ originally 'recommended that the New Zealand track and field'championships' be hold hero on March (3 and 7, but tin’s date clashed with the appearance of the American athletes in Christchurch, and the position was met by the council reviewing 'the position'with the result that' tho New Zealand Council'decided to adhere to the'present itinerary for the American athletes and to request the Otago Centro to hold the New Zealand championships at Dunedin on February-27 and 28, at which meeting ; tho American athletes would appear. It has been suggested that tho profits from the New Zealand championships should bo divided 'as follows:—Onethird of the net profits to go to the Otago Centro as'their proportion of tho profits which would ordinarily accrue from the New, Zealand championships. The other tWo-third's of the profits to go towards the American tour account. . Tins matter will ho considered at a meeting of tho Sports Committee _of the Otago Centro next week, at which the question of agreeing to the inclusion of Harlow Ilothert, the allround field athlete, in tho American team will bo reconsidered at the.request of tho council, the cost being'only an extra £lO per • meeting. The Now Zealand Council seems to have met Otago most fairly in the matter, and there should bo every prospect of a satisfactory agreement being reached in tho matter.-
