ADDRESS BY MR THEO. ARNOLD

The monthly meeting of tho British Israel Association was held in t lie Y.M.C.A. last night. Mr \V. Barnes (president) was in tho chair, ami introduced tho speaker of the evening, Mr Theo. Arnold, who spoke on ‘ /mi Important Message to Israel.' Mr Arnold said that the Milage ot Luz, r:n Palestine, was given >ne name of Bethel, which meant “ The House of God,” by Jacob in 17G0 n i when he invoked God’s blessing on his luturo life and pledged himself to His sewno. In 1732 n.c. he returned to the .-amo place, as recorded in Genesis, and built an altar for God’s worship, lie hero buried the idols which his servants norshipped, and received again _ he name of Israel, meaning “ A Prince witli God.” Jehovah then promised that his progeny would bo blessed and grow into a nation and a company of nations. But Israel became impure and idolatrous, and by 730 n.c., nearly 1,000 years later, when Jerebonm 11. 1 was on the throne, Bethel, tho House ot God, had become the centre of ealf warship. Dniiikciwiess, immorality, oppression, and roguery were rampant. Secure as they conceived themselves to ho under God’s protection, they abused His goodness by a mere outward form of worship and in a partial observance of the law, while cultivating impurity of heart. It'was, said the speaker, at this juncture that God sent n native of Tekon, a village near Jerusalem, to Bethel to pronounce a sentence of destruction and captivity. Amos was the chosen messenger. The news he brought was ill received, but God's word was fulfilled and the captivity took place. Amos also predicted that Israel would be restorer! and become a company of nations ns God had said. That company, said Mr Arnold in conclusion, was at present meeting in London at the Imperial Conference, A hearty vole of thanks was accorded the sneaker for his address.
