DR GALWAY’S RECITAL
Dr Galway's programme for his recital in the Town Hall last evening delighted everyone present. It was attractively arranged and very artistically played, the musical value of each work being finely demonstrated. The first selection- was the great- Bach ‘ Fugue in E Flat,’ a performance of notable power and dignity. The dainty Gluck gavotte from ‘ Iphigenia in Aulis’ was in striking contrast, and was gracefully played. In the middle group a brilliant Widor symphony was outstanding. Two beautiful airs by Dr C. Edgar Ford and the well-known andante from Tschaikowshy’s String Quartet caught the fancy of the whole audience. The ‘ Apprentices’ Dance ’ from ‘The Mastcrsingcrs,’ the introduction to ‘ Manfred.' and the Hollins ‘ Triumph March ’ concluded the organ music. Dr Galway was supported by Mr Wilfred Kershaw, who sang ‘ Hear Sic, Ye Winds and Waves/ and 1 She Alone Charrneth My Sadness.’ Mr Kershaw is a brilliant young bass, and it was a pleasure to hear him in those selections.
