SALE OF WORK On Tuesday the United Congregational Church field a sale of work in Knox Sunday School Hall, Mrs J. J. Clark- performing the opening ceremony in the afternoon. During the afternoon and evening there were good attendances, and satisfactory business was done. In the evening an orchestra, recently organised at the church by the Rev. James M. Smeeth, discoursed excellent music, and, under the direction of Miss E. Laing, a 'number of folk dances were daintily performed by members of t|ie Girls’ Club. A mock art gallery, run by Messrs E. J. Johnston and L. J. Smith, quoits, and dart throwing were additional features. Following were the conveners of the stalls;—Ladies’ Guild stall, Mrs E. E. Wilkinson; cake, Mrs J. Findlay; produce, Mrs Lawrence; flower, Mrs J. Jennings; miscellaneous, Mrs Oliver; novelty, Mrs Burnard; book, Miss Gracie; sweets, Miss Laing; bran tub, Mrs J. H. Oliver; tea rooms, Mrs Taylor; side shows, Messrs E. J. Johnston and L J. Smith. Tho cookery competition, judged by Mrs Wilson, of Wellington, resulted as follows;—Butter sponge, iced: Mrs James Smeeth 1, Miss Doris Henderson 2, Mrs J. Abernetlry h.c. Plain sponge, iced: Miss B. Findlay 1, Mrs Abernethy 2, Mrs Taylor and Mrs Trewern h.c. Shortbread; Mrs E. E. Wilkinson 1, Mrs Smeeth 2. Plain scones: Mrs Oliver 1, Mrs Driver 2. Girdle scones: Mrs Brown 1. Pikelets; Mrs Sutherland 1, Mrs Lawrence 2. Light sultana cake; Mrs Bossward 1. Nut loaf: Mrs Oliver 1, Mrs Smeeth 2. Sausage rolls: Mrs Bossward 1.
