D.J.G. RACES

CONCLUDING DAY A POOR ATTENDANCE A nasty shower just when people were preparing to leavo the city did not help the attendance at Wingabui to-day, which was very poor. The weather was dull and threatening, and the course was heavy and sticky, and no faster than on Saturday. In the early races the betting was very light. Ail started in the Wakari Hurdle Handicap, and Hard Prince (£l93j), Membo (£186), and Gay Fashion (£184) were tho only starters well backed. Shipshape led Hard Prince over the first hurdle, and at tho stand fence the latter had taken charge from Star Tractor and Red Heather.. After crossing the hurdle at tho mile post Hard Prince drew out about throe lengths clear of. Exide and Red Heather, Membo dropping back second last. At the hurdle near'the half-mile Exide put in a faulty jump, leaving Star Tractor and Gay Fashion to follow Hard Prince up the hill. The favourite led over the second last hurdle from Gay Fashion, and Membo began to move up. Hard Prince was first over the last hurdle, but had to be ridden right out to beat Gay Fashion by a neck. Membo was six lengths away third, arid then followed Shipshape, Antrim Boy, and Star Tractor. ■ All started in the Kaikorai Hack Handicap, and , Impertinence (£37OJ) was made a good favourite, with Balance (£232|), Good Gift (£210). and Some. Toff (£163) the next fancied. Academy was slow to leave cbe barrier, and Impertinence Some Toff, Painting, and Good Gift the smartest to begin. After going two furlongs Some Toff and Painting car vied on from Water Power, the favourite and Good Gift, Ballance, and Academy being last. Painting and Some Toff led up the hill and into the straight from Water Power, Ballance, and impertinence. At the distance Painting dropped out, and Water Power ran up to Some Toff. Over the last half-furlong Water Power drew out and beat Some Toff by a length and a-half. Ballance, who was inclined to hang in badly in the straight, was two lengths furthcrback third, followed by Painting, Uxbridge, and Impertinence.
