MANCHESTER UNITY

The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Centenary Lodge, M.U.1.0.0. F., was held in the Wesley Hall, South Dunedin, on Monday overling. The N.G., Hro. J. Peake, presided, and the attendance of members and visiting brothers-was fair. The report of the delegates to the, recent, half-yearly meeting was the chief item for discussion. The proceedings of tho meeting were detailed and the, delegates were thanked for their reports. In connection with the twenty-first anniversary of the lodge, which will be celebrated next year the Permanent Secretary (Bro. B. IF Rosovear) suggested that an effort bo made to reach tho 150 membership mark before the anniversary. Several members supported the suggestion, and it was resolved to endeavour to increase the membership to this extent. One candidate was initiated and five further propositoins for membership wore submitted. The N.G. reported attending the anniversary celebrations of the Queen of Otago (Kaitangata) Lodge. At the close of business a social hour was spent at cards. Visiting brethren from the Loyal Albion and Dunedin Lodges responded to tile visitors’ toast.

The Loyal Cavorslunn Juvenile Lodge met in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Forbnry Corner, a large attendance of members greeting the N.G., Bro. Smith, who presided. The lodge adjourned at an early hour, it being “ parents’ night.” A programme of pictures, provided by the Loyal Cavorsham Adult Lodge, was screened, to an audience which filled tho hall, and judging by the 'applause the evening was thoroughly enjoyed by both juveniles and adults. A meeting of the Adult Management Committee was later held, when several matters relating to the juvenile branch were dealt with. The secretary of the Juvenile Council (Bro. E. Hey), who presided, expressed .gratification, at the full attendance of members of the committee, which indicated their interest in the work of the Juvenile Lodge. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Mosgiel Lodge, held on Tuesday evening, was well attended by members, the N.G., Bro. Craig, in the chair. Tho report of tho delegates to the ( halfyearly district meeting at Palmerston was received.. The delegates made mention of tho splendid manner in which the visiting members had been treated by tho Palmerston Lodge to whom it was resolved to forward a letter of thanks and appreciation. One proposition for membership was received, and ono member declared on the funds of the lodge. It being the night of the annual official visit from sister lodges, the N.G. extended a welcome to tho visting brethren to the number of 120. The city and suburban lodges, with the exception of Loyal Hand and Heart Lodge were represented, and a number of brethren from the Loyal -Outrain Lodge were also present, while the Princess Victoria (Milton) Lodge was represented by a member. • The large attendance of visiting brethren was very satisfactory and gratifying to the local lodge The District Executive was represented by P.D.G.M. Bro. E. Longworth, who, in tho course of acknowledging tho toast of “ The Executive,” congratulated the Mosgiel Lodge on the success of tho function. He referred to tho recent half-yearly meeting of delegates, and stated that members would be pleased to note that the meeting had seen fit to do honour to Bro. Wimam Weir, who had completed fifty years as secretary of the Mosgiel Lodge. He paid a tribute to Bro Weir’s long and valued services, and expressed the hope that he might be spared for many more years of health and happiness. After visiting lodges had responded to the toast, the\ lodge was closed, and the remainder of the evening devoted to a social and dance, a number of the Mosgiel brethren contributing acceptable items. The N.G. (Bro. Craig) acted as : M.C. There was a large attendance at the fortnightly meeting of Loyal Roxburgh Lodge, held on Tuesday evening, the N.G., Bro. E. Hinder, presiding. At the conclusion of business, P.G. Bro. F. Laloli and the N.G. delegates to the recent half-yearly meeting, presented their report, for which they received a hearty vote of thanks. Their remarks were supplemented bv the P.G.M., Bro T. P. Michelle. During the meeting an enlarged photograph of the late P.G. Bro. H. Martin was hung in the lodge room. After the meeting closed a visit was received from the members of Court Roxburgh (A.0.F.), both lodges engaging in a gaine of 500. The visitors were later entertained at supper.

On Wednesday evening' the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Caversham Lodge was held in the hall, Forbury Corner, a large muster of members greeting the N.G., Bro. F. Woodbouse, who presided. A motion of sympathy was passed with P.G. Bro. Bussell and family on the loss of their father. A full report on the proceedings of the district meeting was given by P.G. Bro. H. Emmerson, who received a vote of thanks. Two candidates were initiated. it being the forty-ninth anniversary of the lodge, a dance was later held to mark the occasion. A large number of / visiting brethren were present from the Loyal Centenary, Outram, Mosgiel, Albion. Prince of Wales, and Hand and Heart Lodges, and the function proved a most enjoyable one, Bro. Jarvie providing good music. During the supper interval P.P.G.M. Bro. Tl. S. Black, made appropriate reference to the founding of the lodge, and congratulated the members ou the 1 prosperity of their lodge. At the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Albion Lodge on Thursday evening there was a fair attendance of members, the N.G., Bro. A. Landrebe, in the chair. A cordial welcome was extended to an old member, in P.G. Bro. W. Davie, who passed through the chairs in 1881. Bro. Davie, in an interesting address, related some early incidents of fifty years ago, and stated although not a regular visitor to meeting, he still retained an interest in the affairs of the lodge. The meeting was adjourned at an early hour in order to entertain the members of the Loyal United Juvenile Lodge, some thirty of whom were introduced by President Bro. A. M'Dougall. Quoits and shooting competitions were staged for the boys, prizes-being awarded as follows; Shooting—Bro. Dick 1, Bro; M'Dqngal) 2, Bro. Smith 3. Quoits —Bro. Clement 1, Bro. Allan 2, Bro. Lomas 3. The boys did full justice to supper, and' before departing V.G. Bro. Henderson, on their behalf, returned thanks for the evening. The lodge was then reopened and a number of business matters deal with. For some time past the officers have been actively working towards the formation of a juvenile lodge in the'Anderson’s Bay district, and the permanent -secretary (Bro. Monk) announced that permission had now been received from the Juvenile Council to establish the lodge. This would be named the Loyal Albion Juvenile Lodge, and the opening night was fixed for Thursday, October 16, in the'Baptist Hall, Musselburgh rise. An appeal was made to tbo adult members to actively support the new lodge. The following officebearers were appointed:—President, Bro. A. La ml robe j vice-president, Bro. L. J.
