Sir Arthur Ernest; Appleyard, an electrician, who left Lincoln thirty-two years ago, and has made a fortune at Minneapolis, is anxious to make a gut to his native city. f At his invitation the Mayor of Lincoln and the city engineer saijed from Liverpool on the Cunard liner Laconia for America, where they are to be ms guests for ten days and will discuss what form the,gift shall take. “Mr Appleyard was quite a poor boy when lie.entered a,Lincoln engineering firm to learn his trade, said the mayor to a reporter. “ and at the age of 32 he went to America, and is now a millionaire. . ; “ He wrote a simple letter saying ha was prepared to give something between £15,000 and £20,000, and asked me what form the gift should take. Wo have six or seven suggestions to make to him, including a public baths, park, or maybe it >vill be a library, it is for him to decide, but it will not be a hospital.” ' .
