GOVERNMENT'S POLICY NO HALF REDUCTIONS [Fkou Our Pima a hen taut Ksronxis.] WELLINGTON, September 17. “ Tho policy of tho Government concerning the number of men employed in tho Railway Service and tlie Public Works Department has not been altered, and there is no present intention to make reductions of staff in them,” said Mr Ransom (Acting-Prime Minister), in the House to-day, in reply to a question by Mr Holland (Leader of the Labour Party). “It must bo recognised, however,” the Minister added, “ that it is impossible for the Government to give an undertaking that no reductions will take place under any condition that may arise, that being entirely dependent on the available funds and the economic value of the work to bo carried out.”
