BULL-FIGHTING WITH EXPLOSIVE DARTS
REMOVING HUMANE RESTRICTIONS STEPS TO “REVIVE ” SPORT. , MADRID, August 26. The authorities, whoso slackness with the Conimnnists let new troubles into Spain, find it easy to be severe on bulls., On August 1 fireworks on tUo bulls’ backs were permitted again. Children under fourteen arc onto more admitted into the arena, and, generally speaking, the door to cruelty has been opened wide when i( was gradually being closed. This is the result of a campaign to put more life into tho corridas, for the vested interests received a severe blow recently through bad weather, bad bulls, bad fighters, and football enthusiasm. Banderillas de fuego was forbidden by General Prime de Rivera, who considered those explosive darts mere useless and gratuitous brutality; but a movement is now on foot to make the spectacle as repugnant as before in order to fill tho bull ring. Explosive darts are used to excite bulls that do not show sufficient spirit; but all they do is to irritate them and make their movements erratic. The Spanish Press does not contain a word of protest.
