BENEFIT MEETING A meeting of the committee of the j Dunedin Jockey Club, held yesterday, was attended by Messrs A. 0. Hanlon (chairman), L. C. Hazlctt, JE. H. Lough, J. A. Ainge, 15. S. Irwin, W. Coughlan, A. N. Smith, and Ur Ross. The Secretary reported that owing to the increase in the rates of insui'anccs the executive recommended that the insurances on the stands at Wingatui be reduced.—The action of the executive was approved. It was resolved to apply for March 12 and 14 for the benefit meeting in aid of the St. John Ambulance Association.
The Track Committee reported having visited the course just after the rough weather and found that the now training track was in excellent order. Authority had been given for certain new work to bo done in connection with the tracks. The committee also reported that the main racing track was in excellent condition and that everything at Wingatui was in firstclass order despite the fact that the staff had been reduced to three since tho Juno Meeting. The Secretary reported that he had attended and given evidence before the Railway Commission on the question of railway fares to Wingatui on race days. in connection with the disturbance at Wingatui last Saturday, it was resolved to write to the person concerned informing him that the committee disapproved of his behaviour and warning him that if there was any repetition lie would bo kept off the course altogether. It was resolved to give £lO 10s as prize money to the Otago A. and P. Association for the annual show.
