MARRIAGE REFORM
DEAN INGE'S STARTLING PROPOSALS TWO DISTINCT FORNiS Press Association—-By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, September 10. (Received September 11, at 12.10 p.m.)] Dean Inge proposes a startling marriage reform, in his book. * Christian Ethics,’ published to-day. He suggests that marriages should, be of,two kinds—, one a, limited contract for persons who do not recognise lifelong ypws, pff fidelity, this to' he, recognised, by .the State; and the second, marriage lor life,, recognised .by .the church, would be a scandalous and most dis-, honourable offence to break the latter vow, but if two persons wish, for , a more limited contract 1 think that the State should recognise their position as somewhat better than mere concubinage. Whether they should be allowed to be members of. the .church raises the difficult question of discipline.” Dean, lnge would allow, the State to grant . divorce for desertion,, hrufcal cruelty, habitual drunkenness, conviction for felony, and of bodily and mental defects, in addition to misconduct. Dean Inge adds that he believes that Christ would have said that' marriage was made - for man, not man- for" matriago. ■■■’ ■--'■■■■■■■■vr -
