LYRIC CHOIR

On Wednesday next, in the Town Hall Concert Chamber, the Leech Lyric Choir will present the first concert of the 1930 season. The choir has chosen two works distinctly opposite in style, the first being ‘The Revenge,’ a ballad of the fleet, set to music by Villiers Stanford. The story of ‘ The Revenge ’ is a poetic narrative of one of tho most extraordinary incidents in our island history reflecting the spirit of England. The second work is ‘The Rebel Maid,’ by Montague Phillips, a melodious opera of delightful freshness and charm. The bright and breezy music which characterises the opera is both jolly and refreshing. Mr Leech’s choir musters a body of 120 voices. The production will bo supported by a first-class orchestra, and Mr Leech will direct. The principals are Miss Valda M‘Curdy, Miss Noni Davidson, Messrs W. Ruffell, L. Harrison Stubbs, T. D. White, and James Simpson. Details are advertised.
