FEAR OF WAR
ITALIAN SOLDIERS DESERTING FEELING RUNNING HIGH IK TRIESTE ' Prea« Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, September 9. (Received September 10, at 12.15 p.m.) The 1 Daily Express’s ’ correspondent at Laibach states that Italian soldiers are deserting on the frontier and wandering into Laibach, the capital of the Jugo-Slavian province of Slovenia, where they are being disarmed. They state that the reason is fear of an imminent Italian-Jugo-Slav war. The Slovenia troops have been equipped with extra ammunition and are guarding the Italian Consulate. The feeling in Trieste is running so high that not only has the Jugo-Slav, but the French Consulate been doubly guarded. The executed Slovenian youths are hailed as martyrs throughout Slovenia. [Four Jugo-Slavians were recently shot for being implicated in a bombthrowing outrage in Trieste, which resulted in the death of a sub-editor. The Jugo-Slav Press was forbidden to publish news of the Trieste executions, the Government fearing anti-Italian demonstrations. Nevertheless the news leaked out and resulted in big demonstrations against Italy, which were helped by fancy stories of the manner in which the accused youths were hurried to death by the Fascist executioners.]
