STORMS IN AUSTRALIA
FIERCE GALES RAGING HUGH DAMAGE DONE Press Association—By Telegraph—Copy right. SYDNEY, September 9. Fierce gales have been raging for the past twenty-four hours in parts of South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania, and New South Wales, and they have damaged houses and gardens. Shipping has been greatly disorganised. There have been fierce storms in Northern Tasmania, where floods are feared The greater portion of New South Wales to-day has been enveloped in dust, but a severe hailst. in the ney bed many windows, and a high ■vvii id roofing tiles into the streets. Tli gather bureau has issued warnings to shipping of :n intense cyclonic disturbance over Soutii-eastern Australia, extending over the Tasman Sea. Considerable damage was done in the outer suburban towns of Liverpool and Cabramatta, a picture theatre being blown down and a large hotel extern sively damaged. At Cabramatta scores of windows, which were subjected to the fury of a hailstorm, were smashed to atoms. The wind, with a velocity of between 50 and 60 miles an hour, completely disorganised the telegraph lines in the country, consequently the full extent of the damage is not ascertainable.
