CATTLE RATES FIRM Fat Sheep.—lncluded in the yarding of extra prime wethers, in fact, the of 2,433 head to-day were several pens supply was better than has been the case for the last few weeks. A pen or two of choice light-weight wethers were also in the entry. Of the ewes the majority wore heavy, very few lights being forward. Tire best consignment of fat wethers; was from Mr P. M'Lean, Gore, and averaged 395, while a load from Messrs Fleming Bros., Crookston averaged 375. Two trucks from Mr W. Nicol, Outram, sold round about 355. Prime light-weights sold up to 325, and extra heavy ewes changed hands for about the same amount. Light and inferior quality went at prices ranging between 20s and 255. Wethers were firm at sid lb, and ewes were equal to 4d lb for heavies and 5Jd lb for lights. A few odd pens of hoggets were sold under keen competition for values reaching up to 34s 6d, which works out at 7d lb. Fat Cattle.—Not a great many good cattle were in the yarding of 221 head, and the sale opened at , prices a shade firmer than those of last week, and remained firm. The top price gained before going to press was £22 7s 6d. The best cattle were yet to be sold.
