B CLASS RADIO STATIONS.

TO THR EDITOR. Sir, —There is no risk of “ ZYX ” becoming bored stiff by 4YA, as he is unable, apparently, to differentiate between the really good programmes of the B class stations and the very mediocre ones of 4YA. As for paying a fee to enable tlve B stations to carry on, should that necessity arise, I feel sure there are many hundreds of listeners like myself who would rather do that to ensure good programmes. Listeners should remember that apparently 4YA is on the air only for the purpose of showing some reason for the 30s per annum charged, whereas the B stations are on the air for listeners’ amusement only. Should the B stations be closed down, what kind of programmes are to be expected from 4YA, bearing in mind the quality we get now when it has not a monopoly.— 1 am, etc., R.O.L.A. September 10. TO TBK EDITOR. Sir.—“ ZYX ” is the first person I have heard of who is satisfied with what is “dished out” to us by 4YA. I would be interested to hear that he has no connection, directly or indirectly, sentimentally or otherwise, with that station. Perhaps he has a friend employed there. I do not mind assisting financially to keep the 13 class stations going, as the wonderful service they have given gratis for so long is a good indication of what we could expect from them were they paid to do so. What Ido object to, however, is being compelled to pay 30s a year to keep going a station which, in my opinion, and also that of many others, is neither use nor ornament. I think a good solution to the difficulty would be to pay the 30s feo to the B stations, and pay a slight additional fee to 4YA to keep it off the air. I have absolutely no interest in any shape or form with any broadcasting station. My intentions with regard to my license next year, if the B stations close down, coincide with those of “ ZYX.” I don’t buy one.—l am, etc., E.Y, fejptember 10. «
