Duckworth, and W. jlowcll Lady Ferguson entertained the membcis of the executive of the Otago Women’s Club at her residence, Wychwood, Musselburgh, on Saturday at a dinner party. The hostess received her guests wealing a frock of rose-coloured georgette, the draped skirt falling in long lines, and over this was worn an ermine cape. The rooms were beautifully decorated with spring' flowers, pink and white camclias being cliosen as the decorative flowers for the table. Those present were Mcsdames Oldham, J M Callaway, T. C. Ross, W. F. Edmond, J. R. Bines, W. Holmes, A. Melvillle. R. Ewing, C. Hcwitson, R. Hudson, Misses Ross, JI. Williams, and Jean Nicolsou.

On Tuesday afternoon Mrs Thomas Brown entertained guests at afternoon tea at her residence, Broomlands. Tho literary circle of the St. Clair Women’s Club met at Mrs G. 11. Lightfoot's residence on Thursday last. Extracts from ‘ Pride and Prejudice ’ were read, and a talk on the dress and manners of the early nineteenth century was enjoyed by all. 3

On Wednesday last Mr and Mrs F. J. Green, of St. Clair, entertained a number of young friends at the Hydro, lo celebrate the attainment of his ma-y-city of their eldest son, Fred. A "most enjoyable evening was spent by all. Among those present wore Mesdames Barltrop and Cameron, Misses Ham, Boyd, Grigg (two), Noes, Thomson, Smith, Wilkerson, Barltrop (two), Mcdcr, Clirystall, Bartholomew (two), Brooks, Hannah, Green, Cameron, and Fleming, and Messrs Cameron (two), Barltrop, Wilson, Davcy, Jeavons, M’Nanghton, Hamer, Salmond, Joel, Thomson, Smith, Dormer, Ala cassey, Mcdcr, Kingston, and Muir.

In moving a vote of thanks, Airs Nimino said it had been a very great pleasure to listen to such an address, and assured the speaker that the meeting had been a very interesting and helpful one. Airs Dodd returned thanks for tho items contributed by Misses Burn and Blackmorc. Airs North then gave a short talk on the workings ot tho league, after which afternoon tea was served.

The monthly meeting of the Board o! Directors of the Y.W.C.A. was held on Wednesday. Mrs Bridgman (president! occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance of members. Airs Taverner wrote resigning her seat on the board as she had accepted a seat on the National Y.W.C.A. Board in Wellington. Letters of resignation were also received from Miss Hill Jack and Miss Peterson. A list of names of ladies proposed to fill the vacancies on tho board was read and handed to the Nominations Committee to deal with. Professor Hewitson wrote resigning his seat on tho Advisory Board. The executive recommended that Aliss Hewat come to Dunedin for throe months’ training in tho local association. Permission was given to Miss Mattingly to attend tho basket ball tournament, the lime spent to bo included in her annual holiday. Tho date of the annual bazaar was fixed for October 10,,and 17, Airs G. M. Bogg to be convener. The matter of raising money for materials was left with the stallholders. Airs Nicolson reported that Air Silver’s tender for hostel additions was accepted, and the work was proceeding. Airs J. S. Ross read extracts from national news, and departmental reports were presented by Airs Skinner (girls’ department). Aliss Hardin (membership and senior department), Aliss Little (house and cafeteria).

On Monday evening, in the pin go Women’s Club, a very" lino reading of ‘ The Runaways ’ (Kdon I'liilpotts) was given by the members of the play reading circle in conjunction with members of the University Club. The play is an extremely amusing farce, ,scintillating with bright dialogue, which was admirably rendered by the cast. Miss Morton was in the chair, and in a very happy little speech welcomed the visitors ill the audience and on tbo stage. The following took part Mesdames Wakefield Holmes, A. C. Stephens, I*l. L. Eastgnte, Misses L. McCarthy, I). Clark, Messrs H. Chapman, A. C. Stephens, E. L. Eastgatc, H. Hunter, and Salmond.

A large party of guests assembled at King George Hall. St. Leonards, at the invitation of Mr ami Mrs Thomas Cnthbert, to celebrate tbo coming of age of their daughter, Hannah. A very enjoyable evening was spent. After supper Mr Cnthbert, in a witty speech, presented his daughter with a beautiful key. A presentation of a dressing set was also made by Mr J. Griffon'on behalf of her friends in the district. The hall was very prettily decorated, and -novelty dances were a feature oi the evening’s entertainment.

A most enjoyable evening was given bv the girl members of the Holy Cross G'irls’ Club last .Wednesday evening, a dance being hold in tbo school ball, which was tastefully decorated with paper streamers and coloured lights. All praise is due to the girls, as the evening was a huge success. Mr D. Gain acted an M.C Mrs Eraser conducted the music, eacli dance being heartily encored by the huge crowd of happv dancers. Miss V. Smith and Mr J. Scott were the winners of the "lucky spot,” and Miss V. Wingfield and Mr 11. Litoff the " Monte Carlo.” The singing of ‘ Auld Lang Syne ’ brought the successful evening to a close.

The motor circle of tho Otago Women’s Club has given a wireless set to the patients at tho la 1 boys’ Homo, and this afternoon members journeyed to the home.to make a formal presentation. The set, which has been installed for some lime, lias already given great pleasure to _ tho patients, many of whom arc bedridden. Something is found to interest everyone, the women patients showing a particularly lively interest in tho Saturday football matches, and on being asked to lend tho apparatus during the week; would only do wo on consideration that it should be returned by Saturday. The president, Lady Ferguson, in u very happy speech said she hoped the patients would get as much pleasure from tho gift ns tho members of the circle bad in giving it. Afterwards the circle members were tho guests of the Hospital Hoard at tea at tho Prince Edward Convalescent Homo, while the patients in both homes were provided with a. high ten by the circle.
