A young bachelor, bored by a sewing machine agent, said that the machine would not answer his purpose. “Why,” said tho agent, “it is the best on tho market in every respect!” “That may be,” replied the bachelor, “but the sowing machine 1 am looking for must have flaxen hair and blue eyes.” Scribbe? dashed into the editor’s office. “ Can I have ten bob advance on the story I’m writing} 1 ” he asked. The editor looked up from his desk “ That is a very unusual request,” he murmured. Scribber gave an appealing look. “ I know,” he returned; “out it's like this. I’vo got to a point in the story where the hero sits down to'a semare meal, and I want to get tho right atmosphere.’’
